The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) is proud to join more than two dozen Canadian news organizations and industry supporters for the newly-launched ‘Fact Checked’ campaign that aims to fight misinformation by amplifying the value of Canadian journalism.
The campaign was produced by Unifor’s Media Action Plan. The campaign will see advertisements shared online and social media, aired on radio and television and printed in newspapers across the country. The campaign’s editorial cartoon was created by Michael de Adder.
“Our Fact Checked campaign is meant as a reminder to Canadians who want to be informed and want to be accurate but just may not remember where they heard that bit of information, to fact check it at a credible Canadian news source and to be wary of social media,” said Unifor Media Council chair Julie Kotsis.
CAJ president Brent Jolly and CJFE co-president Michelle Shephard wrote a short op-ed that can be shared in addition to the ad materials.
“The Fact Check campaign stresses the vital importance of our country’s legitimate news outlets,” they wrote. “We are on the front lines of a war against truth, uncovering corruption and abuses of power perpetrated by those who benefit from attacks against the media.”

The Canadian Association of Journalists is the country’s largest professional organization that serves to advance the interests of journalists from coast to coast to coast. The CAJ’s primary roles are public-interest advocacy work and professional development for its members.
