The Delegation of the European Union to Canada and the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) are pleased to introduce the laureates of the 2026 edition of the EU-Canada Young Journalist Fellowship.
The winners are:
- Sandrine Vieira (Ottawa, Ontario) for her article Et si Donald Trump poussait le Canada à se joindre à l’Union européenne? In her news story, Sandrine addressed a timely question that gained public traction in Canada with objectivity, accuracy and clarity. She demonstrated great journalistic talent and skills.
- Maria Collins (Ottawa, Ontario) for her news report Canada-EU digital trade deal could set global standard for data, privacy regulations: experts. Maria’s news report zeroed in on a topic at the top EU-Canada priorities. She proved solid reporting skills and substantial knowledge of EU-Canada relations.
- Marlo Glass (Ottawa, Ontario) for her piece, As Ottawa ‘seriously’ considers banning teens from social media, what can be learned from the European Union’s approach? Marlo distinguished herself through her well-researched and well-written story that offered a wide range of views and a well-rounded account of a newsworthy subject.

The three laureates will participate in a week-long study tour of European Union institutions in Brussels in November 2026. The Delegation of the European Union and CAJ are thrilled to partner on this journalism initiative that aims to support the career development of young Canadian journalists and life-long friendships with Europeans.
Study tour expenses are paid for by the Delegation of the European Union to Canada. Winners also benefit from a one-year CAJ membership or one-year membership renewal.

Established in 1976, the Delegation of the European Union to Canada is a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and, as such, the natural contact point in Canada between the EU and the Canadian authorities. It also has a strong public diplomacy mandate designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the European Union as well as EU-Canada relations. This year, the Delegation celebrates 50 years of EU diplomatic presence in Canada.
The Canadian Association of Journalists is the country’s largest professional organization that serves to advance the interests of journalists from coast to coast to coast. The CAJ’s primary roles are public-interest advocacy work and professional development for its members.
