CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: CODE OF SILENCE AWARDS FOR GOVERNMENT SECRECY
The Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2020 Code of Silence awards for outstanding achievement in government secrecy. The awards are given annually in each of four categories—federal, provincial, municipal, and police services, and are presented in collaboration with the Centre for Free Expression, News Media Canada and the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression.
If you have met resistance in getting information from a public body, please send us your nomination for a deserving award recipient along with the reasons why it should be chosen. If it takes and/or spends public money and isn't being open and transparent about how it does so, it's an eligible nominee.
Nominations will be reviewed by our four organization which will select the most deserving recipients. Awards will be presented publicly in January 2021.
Nominations must be submitted by Nov.15, 2020. They should be sent to Ange Holmes, Coordinator, Centre for Free Expression, Ryerson University by email ([email protected]). All nominations will be acknowledged.
Previous winners include:
Three provincial police forces
Environment and Climate Change Canada
The federal department of finance
The Regional Municipality of Niagara
Saskatchewan Highways and Infrastructure
