The Canadian Association of Journalists does not receive any core grants from government or donations from large corporations. Because of our extensive and strong advocacy activities, we are not eligible for charitable status and do not receive money from charitable foundations.
Thus, the majority of the CAJ’s funds come from individual membership fees, and from our conferences, symposiums and workshops.
Between 25% and 60% of the costs associated with producing these professional development events is underwritten through the support of media sponsors, and non-media companies who purchase advertising in conference programs and the CAJ’s Media Magazine. This allows us to offer reasonable registration rates to our delegates, but more importantly it allows the CAJ to continue operating.
The companies – both media and non-media – who choose to sponsor our conferences or purchase ads in our publications understand the value of a strong, professional, and independent journalism community and the important role that journalists play in Canada’s democracy.
We at the CAJ are passionate about what we do and how well we do it. We work hard to give our members every opportunity to succeed and to lead.
We invite you to join us as we continue to build on 25 years of
Advocacy, Education and Truth.
